Roheen Oats made two free throws with five seconds to play to boost top-ranked Cal State Bakersfield over unranked Wayne State of Michigan, 61-57, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II basketball tournament Friday.

“A miracle,” said Bakersfield Coach Pat Douglass as the victory kept the Roadrunners (32-0) the only unbeaten team in college basketball.

Wayne State (22-10), led by Danny Lewis with 24 points, was ahead, 32-31, at halftime and extended its margin to 49-40 with 8:45 to play.

Oats, who finished with 19 points and 19 rebounds, sent the Roadrunners on an 8-2 run and Tyrone Pollard then came off the bench to tie the score at 57-57 with 1:42 to play.

Pollard’s basket with seven seconds to play put the Roadrunners ahead to stay.

Tyrone Davis had 15 points for the Roadrunners, and Derek Hardy added 17 for the Tartars.

Bakersfield will play Troy State (Ala.) for the title today.
