Youth / OPINION : Public Versus Private Schools: ‘Great Things Come Out of Both’ : KELLY WALTERS; Freshman, 14, Santa Ana Valley High

There are advantages and disadvantages to both sides. Private schools are usually better funded. However, sometimes the teachers are not qualified and the students do not learn. In most public schools, there is not much money. Sometimes classes do not have enough books. Enrollment is so high that there are approximately 40 kids in each class. However, the teachers who have survived the layoffs and taken the pay cuts to be with us are the qualified ones who care enough to stay.

I have seen great things come out of both systems and kids who love and hate school at both. Because of that, I have no right to make a generalization on all schools in general.
