PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Valencia Jumps Out Early, Routs Savanna

Valencia breezed to a 24-6 Orange League victory over Savanna Wednesday night at Brookhurst Park in Anaheim.

The Tigers (5-4, 3-1 in league) lashed out with 18 hits, including doubles by Bill Eubanks and Chris Draft. Eubanks and Luis Garcia also hit triples to lead the rout.

Savanna (3-8, 2-2) made it even easier for the Tigers; its pitchers walked 10 and threw six wild pitches and its fielders committed seven errors. Valencia’s pitchers were hardly better, yielding nine walks, five wild pitches, one hit batsman and a balk.

Valencia took a 9-1 lead after two innings. Eubanks’ two-run double and Chris Chavarria’s two-run single were the big blows in a five-run first. Draft’s run-scoring double, Franklin Jefferson’s two-run single and Eubanks’ run-scoring triple were the big hits in the four-run second.

Valencia scored seven in the sixth on only two hits as Savanna’s pitchers walked in two runs and Louis Leos singled in two runs to boost the score to 19-4. Using mostly substitutes, the Tigers added five runs in the top of the seventh for a 24-4 lead.
