COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Capitalizes on Error, Beats Saddleback

Orange Coast’s Nicole Shammas scored on Carly Girton’s throwing error in the bottom of the eighth to give the Pirates a 3-2 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Friday at OCC.

Kathy Shortall pitched a complete game to earn the victory for OCC (15-8, 9-3 in conference). Saddleback is 18-9, 5-7.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Fullerton 3, Irvine Valley 0--Alicia Robles pitched a two-hitter for host Fullerton (18-7-1, 8-4). Irvine Valley is 4-18, 1-11.

Rancho Santiago 5, Riverside 1--Amy Lewis had three hits and two runs scored for Rancho Santiago (14-13, 7-5).

In nonconference softball:

Bakersfield 4, Golden West 3--Nikki Hale and Lisa Robinett hit back-to-back doubles in a two-run first for the Rustlers (5-14).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s track and field:

Golden West 80, San Diego Mesa 62, Rancho Santiago 38--Adrian Brown won the 100, 200, 110 hurdles, long jump, and triple jump for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming and diving:

Saddleback 183, Cypress 104--Kristine Palle and Jamie DeCook each won three events for Saddleback.
