A look inside Hollywood and the movies : Mopping Up After the Oscars : DECISION TIME : ‘Vinny’ Sequel Beckons Tomei

What’s next for Marisa Tomei--the relative unknown who won the supporting actress Oscar?

A lot of decisions, says manager Suzan Bymel. “The nomination alone created a lot of opportunity,” says Bymel. “This win put us in a whole other place.”

Tomei has five scripts she’s considering, including the possibility that she will re-create her Oscar-winning role of Joe Pesci’s tough-talking fiancee in “My Cousin Vinny 2.” The role “is something we’re interested in,” Bymel says. “Everyone could see the chemistry between the two when they were on stage together during the Oscar show.”

Actually, the film’s distributor, 20th Century Fox, confirms that a sequel is proceeding. “It was in development prior to Tomei’s nomination,” a Fox spokeswoman said. “Both stars are committed to the project and Dale Launer (who wrote the first screenplay) is writing the sequel.”

Later this month Tomei will be seen in “Equinox,” directed by Alan Rudolph and starring Matthew Modine.
