Hood Gains Division I Soccer Laurel

Simi Valley High’s Amy Hood was named the Southern Section Division I girls’ soccer defensive player of the year, topping the list of area soccer honorees.

Jennifer Brant of La Reina was selected as the Division V defensive player of the year.

In boys’ soccer, Steve Thomas of Calabasas was the Division V offensive player of the year, Santa Paula’s Albert Perez was the defensive player of the year and Santa Paula Coach Joe Magdaleno was the coach of the year.

All-section teams:

In boys’ Division I, Jody Riehl of Royal and Jeremy Ross of Thousand Oaks made the first team and Ryan Campbell of Royal made the second team.

In Division II, Tim Durkin of St. Francis and Juan Melgoza of Buena made the first team. Ben Miller of St. Francis made the second team and Steve McDonald of Buena made the third team.

In Division III, Mike Dibbini of Palmdale, Billy Eddy of Harvard-Westlake and Roberto Perez of Burroughs were named to the first team. Quartz Hill’s Dale Billadeaux and Burroughs’ Ian Leiviska and Jesus Munoz were named to the second team. Notre Dame’s Francisco Dongo, Burbank’s Santiago Tovar and Harvard-Westlake’s Griffin Whitney made the third team.

In Division V, Jared Kira of Moorpark made the first team, Abel Chavez of Moorpark and Jeff Toms of Calabasas made the second team. Oak Park’s Andrew Evaid, Santa Paula’s Gil Martinez and Paraclete’s Andy Ward made the third team.

For the girls’ Division I, Royal’s Jennifer Evans and Simi Valley’s Monica Gerardo made the first team. Holly Bennett of Simi Valley, Audrey Maxfield of Westlake and Cathy McGowan of Royal made the second team.

In Division II, Michelle Bush of Alemany was named to the first team, and Buena’s Stefanie Brown and Crescenta Valley’s Danielle Robertshaw made the second team. Natalie Dorr of Ventura, Meghan Mitchell of Alemany, Jennifer Price of Crescenta Valley and Shelby Thiele of Chaminade were selected to the third team.

In Division III, Heather Good of Canyon and Dondi Moore of Palmdale made the first team and Diana Nunez of Burroughs made the second team. Palmdale’s Monica Dopson and Jazmin Sandoval, Hart’s Lori Haskel, Canyon’s Cathy Jones, Quartz Hill’s Danielle Reidder and Burroughs’ Amy Renni made the third team.

In Division IV, Jenny LaFemina, Alicia Moon and Michelle Nuesca of La Reina and Paraclete’s Jennifer Jacoby made the first team. La Reina’s Jamie Armstrong and Jaye Bryant and Oak Park’s Kelley Grehan and Angelique Helvey made the second team. Paraclete’s Michelle Childress and Monica Griffiths, Samantha Conroy of La Reina and Jennifer Frank of Oak Park were named to the third team.
