“J Is for Judgment” is Sue Grafton’s 10th book in the Kinsey Milhone alphabet mystery series and a sure bet to hit the bestseller lists. Grafton, a Santa Barbara resident, has achieved national recognition as an author, enjoys the dedication of mystery fan/tourists who often run up and down the beaches of Santa Barbara hoping to encounter her while out jogging. Her spirited, crime-solving heroine began life in “A Is For Alibi.” Perhaps one of the reasons for the huge success of the novels is that Kinsey grows and changes with each new adventure. Grafton will be autographing at the Ventura Bookstore, 522 E. Main St., Ventura, at noon on Wednesday.

The Arcade Poetry Project presents Diane and Ron Reichhick, who will read at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Performance Studio, 34 N. Palm St., Ventura. Open readings will follow. Admission is $1.

The Prueter Library continues its California Gold film series with “Preserving the Past” and “Traditions” at 7 p.m. Monday in the library, 510 Park Ave., Port Hueneme.

The Conejo Valley Genealogical Society will present two programs Tuesday in the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road. At 6:30 p.m., Southern California libraries will be the subject of discussion. Book table browsing and refreshments are scheduled at 7 p.m.; at 7:30 p.m. Brad Miller will describe the contents of the library’s Special Collections Department. Call 497-8293.

Eric Seyfarth, editor of Westways Magazine, which has published the work of generations of free-lancers (including this columnist) over its 84 years, will speak to the Ventura County Writers Club about the magazine’s changing format and new editorial requirements.
