Economic Outlook for California Brighter: While the economy of the five-county Los Angeles area is still caught in the throes of a major restructuring and lingering recession, a trough should be reached by the end of 1993, and a modest recovery should get underway in 1994. These are the conclusions of the latest economic forecast and industry outlook study for the Los Angeles area released by the Economic Development Corp. of Los Angeles County. “However, local firms will be cautious about adding to their work force, so non-farm employment will decline in 1993, and local unemployment rates will hang on the high side,” said Jack Kyser, chief economist for the EDC. “Los Angeles County’s unemployment rate should average 10.2% in 1993,” he said.
