Titans’ Evans Tested Following Fainting Spell

Kyle Evans, a freshman on the Cal State Fullerton baseball team, was taken to a hospital for examination Thursday after fainting in the front yard of his family’s home.

“We don’t know the extent of it now; he’s been taking some tests,” Fullerton trainer Kyle Coburn said. “We don’t know a conclusion yet. . . . He’s been seeing his own doctors.”

Evans, a graduate of Katella, has been having dizzy spells and respiratory problems since participating in the California-Oklahoma All-Star series last summer, according to Titan Coach Augie Garrido. As a result, he has not been doing any distance running with the team.

“It’s been kind of an ongoing problem,” Garrido said. “No one has been able to identify the real source.

“When we did a fitness test early in the year; he didn’t do well.”

Evans is batting .317 this season with three home runs and 17 runs batted in for the Titans, who are ranked second nationally in the Collegiate Baseball poll and third in Baseball America. He has played right field, first base and designated hitter.

The Titans play host to Cal State Long Beach in a three-game series beginning at 7 tonight. Garrido said Evans’ availability will be determined by his doctors.
