WEEKEND TV : Children Honor Earth Day on Nickelodeon

A gathering of children to celebrate Earth Day, a discussion of law and order in Los Angeles and an interview with Police Chief Willie L. Williams highlight the weekend’s viewing choices.

Fifty-six children gather Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Fla., for the “Kids’ World Council: Plan It for the Planet.” Linda Ellerbee is the moderator and Vice President Al Gore will make an appearance. The show repeats Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on Nickelodeon.

Law and order in the city will be discussed on “Both Sides With Jesse Jackson,” today at 6 p.m. on CNN. Guests include John Mack of the L.A. Urban League; police sergeant and City Council candidate Dennis Zine; Angela Oh, president of the Korean-American Bar Assn. of Southern California, and former gang member Tony Bogard, now a member of Hands Across Watts. The program will repeat Monday at midnight.

Chief Williams will talk about the city, the police department and the Rodney G. King civil rights case on “This Week With David Brinkley,” Sunday at 11 a.m. on ABC.
