Asking the Wrong People
In the March 22 edition, five respondents were asked whether there would be enough prospective air travel to attract and sustain the entry of a major airline into Ventura County. The answers were mostly optimistic and represented great hope for the future. The problem with this kind of survey is that the questions are being asked of the wrong people.
The only meaningful answers to your questions have to come from the airlines themselves. Would they be willing to invest huge sums to provide terminal facilities, parking areas, public access, 24-hour security and appropriate auxiliary services? If they would, fine, but before anyone becomes too hopeful or, even worse, opposing positions are taken within the community, the airline position must be determined.
The prudent next step for Ventura County would be the development of a committee supported by the various city chambers of commerce and then, having done so, beard the “airlions” in their den.
