Evidence Found After Explosion Kills Athlete
A pipe bomb and a bomb-making book were found at the home of a Washington State football player who lost his hand in an explosion that killed a teammate, police said Wednesday.
Linebackers Harvey Waldron and Payam Saadat were driving Monday night when a pipe bomb exploded in their pickup truck.
Waldron, 22, of Bellevue, died Tuesday night at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Saadat, 20, of Santa Monica, was in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Coach Mike Price said Saadat told him the explosion was an accident. “Payam and Buddy built a pipe bomb,” Price said. “They did it because they were curious.”
The coach said Saadat told him they had planned to set off the explosive in an empty field. Saadat was holding the device in the car when it exploded.
