Tullberg Sweeps to First-Round Win
Julie Tullberg of Ojai advanced in the first round of the women’s open singles draw Thursday in the 94th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. Tullberg, who won a doubles title at Ojai while at Nordhoff High and later played at San Diego State and USC, defeated Jennifer Kocek of Palm Desert, 6-2, 6-2.
Tullberg will face Stacy Margolin of Los Angeles at 9:30 a.m. in today’s second round.
In other first-round matches, Ania Bleszynski of Thousand Oaks, a favorite in girls’ 18-under singles, defeated Holly Meyers of Huntington Beach, 6-4, 6-2. Katie Kirkmire of Ojai also advanced.
Only three of 10 local entries survived in boys’ interscholastic singles division. Steve Tallakson of Nordhoff, Chung Cho of Glendale and Phillip Tseng of Harvard-Westlake won.
