ROUNDUP : Lee Pitches No-Hitter for Crescenta Valley

Garret Lee pitched a no-hitter to lead Crescenta Valley High to a 4-0 victory over Glendale in a Pacific League baseball game Friday at Stengel Field.

Lee, a junior, struck out four and walked three. Kirk Hagge’s two-run double in the sixth broke a scoreless tie.

In other high school baseball games:

Thousand Oaks 12, Camarillo 5--Matt Elam, Brad Cohn and Eric Soliz each had three hits in the Marmonte League game as the host Lancers (14-6, 5-3 in league play) won their eighth in a row. Greg Aguilar hit a three-run home run in the sixth to give the Lancers a 9-4 lead.

Jake Spahr and Eric Jue each had two hits for Camarillo (6-13, 2-6), and Colby Keener added his league-leading 12th double.

Antelope Valley 7, Burroughs 6--The second of two triples by Eric Cole drove in two runs in the sixth with the Antelopes trailing, 6-5. Cole also had a double.

Hueneme 5, Santa Barbara 3--Jess Oliveras struck out the Dons’ top two hitters with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and went on to earn a save. Oliveras also was three for four.

Burbank 3, Canyon 2--Gino Archuleta had three hits--including the winning single for Burbank (7-7, 2-4) in the seventh--in a Foothill League game.

Hart 4, Saugus 1--Alan Ray’s two-run double in the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie for the Indians (14-5, 4-1). Sophomore Luis Sanchez (5-0), who is 12-0 in his high school career, pitched a two-hitter.

First Lutheran 11, Southeast Lutheran 1--Carlos Alderete, a junior right-hander, tossed a five-inning no-hitter for First Lutheran (10-2) in a nonleague game.

Fillmore 4, Bishop Diego 3--Louie Garza scored in the eighth inning for Fillmore (10-3, 5-2) on Randy Kozar’s sacrifice fly in a Tri-Valley League game. Jaime Duran went three for four.

Hoover 10, Pasadena 5--An eight-run third inning propelled the Tornadoes (12-5, 7-2) in a Pacific League game. Chris Butler and Robert Ruiz each had three hits and Ron Pirayoff added a two-run homer.

Highland 14, Littlerock 13--Jim Reel hit a three-run home run and a three-run double for host Highland (8-7-1, 2-5-1) in a Golden League game.

Santa Clara 4, Nordhoff 1--Santa Clara (6-6, 5-2) moved into a first-place tie in the Frontier League behind Fernando Garcia’s three-hitter.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Whittier 6, Cal Lutheran 2--Bradon Boettner’s six-hitter in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game gave the Poets an upset over Cal Lutheran (23-6, 14-2), ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III. The win is the first for the Poets in 10 games against the Kingsmen since 1989.

Biola 7, The Master’s 6--The Eagles scored the winning run in the ninth in an NAIA District III game. Darin Brebes hit two doubles for The Master’s (23-19, 12-6).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge d. UC Santa Barbara, 12-15, 15-8, 5-15, 15-9, 15-11--Ken Lynch had 27 kills and Axel Hager added 24 as visiting Northridge (19-9, 13-6) concluded its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule.

COLLEGE SWIMMING

Western State Conference Championships--Pierce College freshman Bettina Aubermann won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute 56.67 seconds for her second conference championship in as many days at Ventura College.

Aubermann, who won the 500 freestyle by more than thirty seconds (5:16.22) Friday, will try for her third conference title today in the 100 butterfly.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 5-10, Whittier 2-0--The Regals (23-7-1, 17-3) slugged 24 hits and swept the Poets (7-17, 4-13) in a SCIAC doubleheader.

Aimee Snider went four for four with a double and a triple.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Saugus 4, Canyon 3--Shana New scored the winning run on a single by freshman Jamie Gillies in the ninth inning of a Foothill League game. Gillies (6-2) also pitched a complete game.

Notre Dame 3, Chaminade 2--Lourdes Flinsky’s bases-loaded, one-out single in the eighth inning scored Lesley Feldman (two for four) in a Mission League game. Crista Corpening (4-2) pitched a one-hitter and had three hits.

BOYS’ TRACK

San Fernando 59, Granada Hills 56--Junior Flip Aguilar won the 440-yard dash in a personal best of 50.3 seconds and anchored the Tigers to victories in the 440 and mile relays in the North Valley League meet at San Fernando.
