Cal State Fullerton Overcomes Shaky Start to Beat Grand Canyon

Share

After a shaky start, Dan Ricabal settled down and pitched Cal State Fullerton to a 12-5 victory over Grand Canyon in a nonconference baseball game Sunday at Titan Field.

Ricabal hit the first batter, gave up a single to the second and then Darrin Forster drove in two runs with a triple. Forster scored on a double by Bryan Lundberg, giving Grand Canyon a 3-0 lead.

After the first, however, Ricabal gave up only two singles, until tiring and leaving the game in the eighth after three consecutive Grand Canyon singles.

After four scoreless innings, Fullerton’s offense picked up in the fifth. The Titans (29-12) scored five in the fifth, one in the sixth and six in the seventh. Every Fullerton starter had at least one hit and all but one--Nate Rodriquez, who had two hits--had at least one run batted in.

Jeremy Carr had three hits, one RBI and three steals.

Grand Canyon is 20-23.
