COLLEGE ROUNDUP : SCC Takes Two From Point Loma in Season Finale

Southern California College, the Golden State Athletic Conference softball champions, swept a doubleheader from host Point Loma Nazarene to close the regular season Tuesday.
Stephanie Wills had four hits, three runs batted in, and three runs scored and Carrie Nelson had three hits, four runs scored and four stolen bases for the Vanguards, who won 4-1 and 11-0.
Shannon Saylor pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the first game and Beth Howard earned her 16th victory in the second game. Howard pitched a five-hitter and Renee Hernandez homered for SCC (37-12-2, 14-2) in the second game, which was halted after six innings on the mercy rule.
SCC will host the District 3 playoffs beginning May 7.
In nonconference baseball:
Christ College Irvine 9, Whittier 6--Gary Sussman had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Doug Senne went three for four with three RBIs for CCI (14-23-2). Host Whittier is 9-20.
San Diego State 2, Chapman 1 (12 innings)--Chapman pitcher Corey Giuliano walked in Greg Quam with the winning run in the top of the 12th inning after the Aztecs loaded the bases on a pair of singles and an error.
