La Puente : Roommate Held in Shooting
A La Puente man has been arrested in the death of his roommate, whom he is accused of shooting and leaving on the lawn of a hospital, authorities said Wednesday.
William Lester White, 24, was booked on suspicion of murder at the sheriff’s Industry station in the death of the 22-year-old victim whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Bill Martin said.
The mortally wounded victim was found on the lawn near the emergency room of Queen of the Valley Hospital about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Martin said. He died several hours later while in surgery.
Evidence found at the victim’s home in the 1100 of Aileron Avenue led investigators to believe the man was shot there, Martin said.
White arrived home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and was questioned by detectives. He led detectives to a sewer drain near a school in the 800 block of Del Valle Avenue, and they recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the attack.
Based on conflicting statements allegedly made by White and based on the recovery of the weapon, he was arrested, Martin said.
