NBA PLAYOFFS / UPDATE : CLIPPERS : They Edge Pacers for 13th Pick in Draft

Share

The Clippers got their first victory of the postseason Wednesday, when they won a coin flip with the Indiana Pacers for the 13th pick in the June 30 college draft.

The Pacers will choose 14th.

A scouting report on the Houston Rockets, from Denver Nugget assistant coach Gene Littles:

“They can put five guys on the floor who are going to run. We would say to our team they can run like deer. They had some times against us when they would pass out the rebound and drive for a layup before we were even at half court.”

And on the MVP-type season of Hakeem Olajuwon, continuing to improve during his ninth season:

“He has improved his passing 100% out of double teams. He now waits longer for the open man or cutter because he realizes he can get his shot whenever he wants to.”

Apparently so. Olajuwon is averaging a career-high 26.1 points.

The Clippers have lost 14 in a row at Houston, with the last victory at the Summit coming Nov. 8, 1986. . . . . . . The Rockets are the second team to go from the lottery to a division championship. The first was the 1989-90 San Antonio Spurs, coached by Larry Brown. . . . Tickets for Game 3, when the series moves to Los Angeles on Monday night, are available at the Sports Arena and TicketMaster.
