California Derby Winner Denmars Dream Destroyed
California Derby winner Denmars Dream broke down after completing a seven-furlong workout Monday morning at Hollywood Park and had to be destroyed.
Preparing for a start in the Illinois Derby on May 8, the 3-year-old Mining gelding had just completed the work, which was timed in 1:26 2/5, when he dislocated the fetlock joint in his right foreleg.
Owned and bred by Marvin Malmuth and trained by Ian Jory, Denmars Dream finished his career with three victories in seven starts and earnings of $249,151.
In addition to the California Derby, which was his final race on April 10, he also won the San Miguel Stakes on Jan. 2 at Santa Anita.
