PREP TRACK ROUNDUP : Foothill Wins the Century Dual-Meet Title

Foothill defeated El Modena, 73-63, in a Century League boys’ track and field meet to capture the dual-meet league championship Wednesday at El Modena High School.
It was El Modena’s first dual-meet loss in five years.
Gary VanSluis of El Modena cleared 14 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and John Bain was second at 14-0 for Foothill (5-0).
Foothill’s Tad Heath won the 440-yard dash (50.9 seconds) and the 880 (2:14.5). El Modena finished the dual-meet season at 8-1, 4-1 in league.
In other Century League boys’ track and field meets:
Villa Park 86, Canyon 50--Canyon’s Jerrick Harper won the discus with a throw of 152-2 and Troy Langley took first in the high jump (6-6).
In the Empire League:
Katella 98, Loara 27--Katella’s Brian Carlson cleared 6-10 in the high jump.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Century 78, Laguna Hills 58--Junior Jesse McDonald threw 157-4 in the discus for Laguna Hills (5-2, 4-1). Century finishes 5-0 in league.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 71 1/2, Mission Viejo 64 1/2--Justin Horey won the 400 (53.2), long jump (20-6) and the triple jump (40-11) for Capistrano Valley (5-0-1, 4-0-1).
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 88, Westminster 47--Chris Cunningham won the 200 (23.4), 400 (52.6) and 300 hurdles (44.2) for Fountain Valley (7-0 in league).
In Century League girls’ track and field:
El Modena 75, Foothill 52--Lynette Anderson won the high jump (5-2) and the long jump (16-5) as host El Modena (9-0, 5-0) clinched the league dual-meet championship. Foothill is 4-1.
In the Empire League:
Katella 102, Loara 23--Junior Kalilah Fountaine won the 100 (12.6), 200 (26.8) and triple jump (33-6) for Katella (3-2).
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 70, El Toro 57--Adara Newidouski won the shot put (39-11) and discus (132-0) for Dana Hills (4-1 in league). El Toro is 3-2 in league.
Mission Viejo 70, Capistrano Valley 57--Beth Merkle won the 400 (1:01.4) and the 300 hurdles (47.0) for visiting Mission Viejo (5-0).
In the Sunset League:
Edison 102, Huntington Beach 25--Freshman Marie Philman won the 100 hurdles (16.7), high jump (5-0), shotput (34-5) and discus (115-6) for Edison.
