Cal Lutheran slugged 18 hits--half of which went for extra bases--and rolled to a 16-0 victory over Occidental on Friday and clinched a share of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball title.

The Kingsmen (27-7, 17-2), who owned a 2-0 lead after two innings, extended their lead to 12-0 with eight runs in the seventh.

In another baseball game:

Mission 8, Citrus 7--Sophomore Richard Avalos’ three-run homer, his sixth of the season, keyed a five-run ninth inning for the Free Spirit, who overcame a 7-3 deficit. Jesus Perez, with a safety squeeze bunt single, and Reul Flores (sacrifice fly) drove in the other two runs.

The victory gave Mission (23-13) the championship of the Taft tournament, which started in February. Mission lost the first game of the tournament, then won five games in 30 hours to get to the championship game, which was postponed twice because of rain.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 2-3, La Verne 1-8--The split helped the Leopards move closer to the SCIAC championship. La Verne (26-8, 19-3) pulled two games ahead of the Regals (25-9-1, 19-5) in the loss column by winning the second game.

Cal Lutheran won the 10-inning first game that ended with the international tiebreaker rule when Heidi Ramage scored from third on a wild pitch.

Bakersfield 6, Moorpark 4--The visiting Raiders lost an opportunity to clinch their seventh consecutive Western State Conference championship. They finished the regular season tied with Canyons (both 6-2 in conference) and will face the Cougars in a one-game playoff Wednesday at a neutral site to determine the champion.
