BASEBALL ROUNDUP : El Camino Real’s Win Streak Stopped at 13 by Taft, 2-1

Brandon Witkow hit a run-scoring double and Adam Shotland singled home another run in the sixth inning Tuesday as Taft High (16-6, 7-6 in league play) snapped El Camino Real’s 13-game winning streak with a 2-1 West Valley League victory at Taft.
Mike Smith of El Camino Real (16-2, 12-1) hit a home run off Witkow (8-1) in the third inning.
In another high school game:
Burroughs 4, Hart 3--Burroughs (12-9, 6-2) scored three runs in the eighth to take the Foothill League lead from Hart in a night game at Burroughs.
Hart (16-7, 6-3) scored two runs in the top of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
COLLEGE
Canyons 10, Ventura 8--Andy Shaw’s two-out grand slam capped a six-run rally by Canyon in the eighth inning of a Western State Conference game at Ventura.
Trailing, 7-3, after seven innings, Canyons (27-8, 24-4) scored six runs in the eighth on three walks, two hit batters and Shaw’s grand slam.
Mike Muncy was four for five with a double, triple and two RBIs for Ventura (16-20, 11-17).
Cuesta 9, Pierce 6--Cuesta scored four times in the ninth inning at Pierce to win a WSC game.
Bill Brown, who was five for five with five RBIs, delivered a two-run single to key the rally. Dan Rodriguez (6-3) was charged with the loss.
Pierce’s Matt McHendry hit two home runs, the second with one on in the eighth to give the Brahmas (21-14, 18-10) a 6-5 lead.
Mission 16, Compton 0--The Free Spirit trounced Compton in a Southern California Athletic Conference game at Compton to record a school-record 25th win of the season against 13 losses.
