PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Egan’s Quick Recovery Is Perfect Prescription for Brea-Olinda

Share

Brea-Olinda pitcher Josh Egan’s speedy recovery after undergoing his second arthroscopic knee surgery three weeks ago is just what the Wildcats needed.

Egan (3-0) gave up seven hits, retiring the final eight batters as Brea-Olinda defeat Western, 5-4, in an Orange League game Friday at Brookhurst Park.

“It’s three weeks ago to the day that he had the last surgery on his left knee,” Brea-Olinda Coach Steve Hiskey said. “Now that’s a competitor.”

Egan survived a rocky start during which he gave up three runs in the second inning and threw 46 pitches in the first two innings.

Western’s Jeff Livingston led off the second with a home run over the left-field fence. Isaiah Cadena added a run-scoring single, driving in Art Garcia, and Cadena scored on Marques Robinson’s single.

Western’s three-run burst erased a 3-0 lead the Wildcats (13-9-1, 7-5-1) built in the first, a rally capped by Jason Theis’ two-out, two-run single.

In the third, Dan Miller, who had three hits and two runs scored, singled, stole second, and scored on Marc Anspach’s single to give Brea-Olinda a 4-3 lead.

Mike Brambilla’s sacrifice fly scored John Stoddard in the fifth to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead.
