Aid for Russia Could Be Better Spent on Rebuilding L.A.

Whether the chant is, “No Taxation Without Representation” or “No Justice, No Peace,” the message is the same: People want fairness and a level playing field to make it in society.

The government continues to insist that money is not available to handle various socioeconomic problems. However, President Clinton recently committed over $1.6 billion to restructure the Russian economy. Interestingly enough, the funds committed to Russia will address such areas as food and medical assistance, housing assistance, environmental and energy assistance and capital investment for local economies.

How do you justify giving a billion dollars to Russia when you can’t seem to find the money to rebuild Los Angeles?

Unless and until government leaders address poverty, joblessness, discrimination and financial redlining with the same passion they have for putting more police on the streets, hopelessness will prevail among communities that have been left out.

People left out of the mainstream have nothing to live for because they have no stake in what’s good for the Establishment. If they continue to be neglected, civil unrest is not a question of if , but rather when it will happen again.
