Extended Goodby: When the producers of “Cheers” got around to editing the final episode for May 20, they found they had more footage than they could pack into the 90 minutes that NBC had allotted them. Their solution? Start at 9:22 p.m. instead of 9:30, of course. NBC already had planned to fill the 9 p.m. slot with a “Cheers” celebration hosted by Bob Costas; that will now end eight minutes earlier than originally planned.
