HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hankins Hits Three Home Runs for Simi Valley

Ryan Hankins slugged a school-record three home runs, collected five hits and drove in six runs to help Simi Valley High rout Channel Islands, 15-4, in a Marmonte League game Wednesday at Oxnard.

Hankins raised his season runs batted in total to 50, breaking Shaun Murphy’s 1985 single-season school record of 47. Hankins, who has 11 home runs this season, hit a three-run shot in the first inning, a solo homer in the third and a two-run blast in the seventh.

Britten Pond had two hits, including a solo home run, to raise his school-record season total of hits to 50, and added two RBIs for Simi Valley (23-2, 13-0 in league play), which clinched the Marmonte championship last week.

Bill Treadway (7-0) went four innings to get the victory.

In other high school baseball games:

Camarillo 5, Westlake 4--Jay Nirenberg hit two home runs and drove in four of the Scorpions’ five runs to beat Westlake in a Marmonte League game.

Nirenberg’s two-run home run in the third tied the score, 3-3, and his solo shot in the fifth gave Camarillo a two-run lead.

Thousand Oaks 6, Agoura 5--Clint Harris slugged a three-run homer and Jamal Nichols added a solo shot as the visiting Lancers built a 6-1 lead then held on for a Marmonte League victory. Kevin Sass (three hits, two runs, two RBIs) and Jason Warren (two hits) led Agoura (4-19, 1-12), which rallied for two runs in the seventh, but left runners at second and third.

St. Monica 4, Bell-Jeff 1--Mariner pitcher Louis Lepe pitched a no-hitter but the Guards scored on a fielder’s choice after Lepe loaded the bases by hitting three batters in the fifth inning of a Camino Real League game.

David Matekel, the first batter Lepe hit, scored the lone run for Bell-Jeff (7-14, 2-7). Lepe (4-2) had two strikeouts for St. Monica (13-7, 7-2).

Crespi 11, Alemany 0--Senior right-hander Jorvic Salazar fired a six-hit shutout and Casey Snow added three RBIs and three runs as the Celts clinched the Mission League title with their 13th consecutive victory.

Snow hammered a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Jeff Suppan added a two-run triple in the second for Crespi (23-2, 13-0).

Chaminade 6, Harvard-Westlake 5--Adam Crecion singled home Kevin Lohman with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Eagles rallied from a 5-0 deficit in a Mission League game at Chaminade.

Chaminade (12-13, 5-8) tied the score, 5-5, in the seventh when Jason Giovannettone singled, was sacrificed to second, and scored on a single by Brian Powers, who had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs.

Buckley 10, Providence 0--Kevin Armstrong (3-2) pitched five innings of one-hit ball and Mitch Brim added two innings of hitless relief for Buckley in a nonleague game.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 3, St. Bernard 0--Junior right-hander Crista Corpening pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to pace the the Knights (11-11, 8-4) past St. Bernard in a Mission League game.

Corpening (9-8), who was perfect through 6 1/3 innings before surrendering a single, faced one batter over the minimum.

Louisville 9, Harvard-Westlake 0--Lindsey Harris pitched a three-hit shutout and the Royals (13-7, 7-5) clinched their first playoff berth in a Mission League game at Louisville.

Chaminade 9, Flintridge Sacred Heart 8 (12 innings)--Kristin Mathews doubled home Kelsey Bennett with the go-ahead run in the 12th inning for Chaminade (12-10) in a nonleague game at Flintridge.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Westlake freshman Nick Barvais won the Marmonte League singles championship by defeating Josh Deschamp of Camarillo, 6-2, 6-5, at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.

Stephen Hura and Dan DeKalb of Westlake took the doubles title by downing Steve Kwon and Chris Ayers of Thousand Oaks, 6-4, 6-4.
