HOLLYWOOD PARK : Australian Simulcast Will Be No-Bet Affair

Share

A simulcast of a race from Australia tonight will be shown at Hollywood Park, but there will be no betting allowed because the purse offered on the Lord Mayor’s Cup is less than $100,000.

The California Horse Racing Board and the state attorney general’s office ruled that international simulcasts must comply with California Horse Racing Law, Section 19596, and involve a race with a purse of at least $100,000.

Hollywood Park will simulcast the sixth, seventh and eighth races on its card to Australia and Australian riding star Mick Dittman has mounts in two of those. He will ride 4-1 shot Weyburn in the sixth and 2-1 favorite Polar Boy in the eighth.

Hollywood Park will offer betting on the $150,000 Garden State Budweiser Breeders’ Cup from Garden State Park in New Jersey. The six-furlong race will be shown after the first local race. Meafara, who ran second to Thirty Slews in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, will make her first start of 1993 in the Budweiser Breeders’ Cup and is the favorite.
