Willie Stennis, 69, founder of the Golden Bird fast food chain. Stennis and his wife, Zelma, started the fried chicken restaurants in 1957. There are now 12 outlets managed by their son, Michael. The senior Stennis also served on the California State University Board of Trustees, and was an ardent spokesman for encouraging and enabling inner-city youth to attend the state university system.
