Man Bails Out of Car Before Train Hits
A man whose car was stuck on the tracks managed to jump out in time to avoid an oncoming Amtrak train Wednesday night, police said.
David Khiev, 30, was driving in the 900 block of East Chestnut Avenue when the railroad warning arms started to come down, Police Lt. Earl Porter said.
“As he was trying to stop, he was rear-ended by another vehicle and pushed onto the tracks,” Porter said. “The car behind him tried to push him off the tracks, but before they could, the train came along, so he bailed out.”
Khiev, of Santa Ana, was not injured in the 9:01 p.m. accident but his car caught fire and was destroyed, fire officials said.
No one on the northbound passenger train was injured, Porter said.
