Tim Tivenan, El Modena boys’ basketball coach, has been hired as the boys’ coach at El Dorado, Athletic Director Carl Sweet said Wednesday.

Tivenan was approved by the Placentia Unified Board of Education Monday. He replaces Wayne Carlson, who resigned in April.

Tivenan, 38, has been the Vanguards’ coach for seven seasons, compiling a record of 100-76. El Modena has won four league titles in the last five seasons.

The Vanguards’ best season under Tivenan was 1988-89, when they finished 20-5 and reached the second round of the Southern Section 4-AA playoffs.

Tivenan is a graduate of El Modena and led the Vanguards to the 3-A championship game in 1972, where they lost to Camarillo in overtime. He was a four-year starter at UC Irvine from 1973-77.

Before coaching at El Modena, Tivenan was a varsity assistant and junior varsity coach at Orange for three years.
