HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Richardson Hurls 2-Hitter to Help Camarillo Advance

Camarillo’s Laura Richardson outdueled El Toro’s Misty Lauby, leading the Scorpions to a 2-0 victory on Thursday at El Toro and sending Camarillo into the Southern Section Division I semifinals.

Richardson (19-3), a senior right-hander, pitched a two-hitter and struck out five. Lauby struck out 13 for El Toro (18-13) and also allowed just two hits, including a triple by Julie Borchard that drove in Sarah DeWoody with Camarillo’s first run in the fourth inning. Borchard scored later in the inning on a delayed double steal.

Camarillo (23-6) will meet Los Alamitos, a 1-0 winner over Marina in 22 innings, in Tuesday’s semifinals.

North Torrance 1, Alemany 0--The Indians (22-8) threatened in the seventh and nearly forced extra innings, but Jamie Moore was thrown out at the plate to end the Division III quarterfinal game at Torrance.

Moore walked and was sacrificed to second by Tanya Ortiz. Carrie Edemann, who had two of Alemany’s four hits, singled to right-center field with two out, but Moore was caught at the plate.

La Reina 10, Flintridge Prep 1--The top-seeded Regents rode a 15-hit attack and the one-hit pitching of freshman right-hander Jennifer Baltruzak into the Division V semifinals.

Baltruzak (16-0-1) gave up a third-inning single and three walks while striking out four, and also collected two hits. Baltruzak has tossed two no-hitters and allowed just four hits in her last four starts.

Leadoff batter Michelle Nuesca keyed the La Reina offense with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs, two runs batted in and two stolen bases. Erin Patrick also had three hits and two runs, while Shane Anderson and Sarah Heiler each added two hits for the Regents (25-4-1), who will meet Murrieta Valley, a 10-3 winner over San Jacinto, in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Flintridge Prep finished 16-7.

Templeton 15, L.A. Lutheran 3--Top-seeded Templeton (21-3) collected 11 hits in the Division VI quarterfinal.

Andrea Alary was two for three with four RBIs. Lacy Martin was two for four with two RBIs. L.A. Lutheran finished 18-6.
