MOORPARK : Surprise Checks Find Many Unsafe Trucks

Share

A surprise truck inspection in Ventura County netted an “unusually high” number of trucks with serious equipment violations, a California Highway Patrol official said Friday.

The safety inspections were conducted Thursday and Friday on the Simi Valley Freeway at Grimes Canyon Road.

Of 180 trucks inspected, 95 were found to have equipment violations considered too serious for the truck to continue operating. Those trucks, all two axles and over, were required to stay at the inspection site until permanent or temporary repairs were made, CHP Lt. Bill Inglis said.

“I hate to indict the drivers for all being in violation, but that is a significant amount,” he said.

Forty additional trucks received minor citations, Inglis said.

Inglis said the inspections were conducted by a team of CHP officers in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

“We try to have large-scale inspections randomly throughout the state on roadways that experience high truck traffic,” he said.
