A fire that burned the roof and attic of a condominium unit Wednesday caused an estimated $25,000 in damage and slightly injured a woman, firefighters said.

The fire broke out just after 11:30 a.m. at 12 Featherwood. Firefighters contained the blaze within 10 minutes, said Kathleen Cha, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department.

Fire officials said the blaze began in the attic and spread to the roof. The preliminary cause of the blaze was listed as an electrical malfunction, Cha said.

A resident of the condominium, Anna Ravelo, 27, suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Irvine Medical Center for observation.

Ravelo apparently inhaled the smoke while trying to save belongings from inside the condominium after she called 911, Cha said. “She went back and forth trying to collect things,” she said.

Cha stressed the importance of exiting burning structures as quickly as possible. She said it is unwise and dangerous to re-enter a building to save property from the flames.

“Smoke inhalation can be serious and have long-term effects,” she said.

The condominium could be inhabitable after repairs are made to the roof, Cha said.
