HUNTINGTON BEACH : Council Postpones Acting on Pier Plaza

Share

The City Council has delayed action for two weeks on a proposal to build a $3-million plaza leading to the new municipal pier.

The plaza proposal was scheduled for a vote at Monday night’s City Council meeting. But the council deferred action on the plaza and most other items on its Monday agenda because of a lengthy public hearing on the fate of the seawall art program, which was discontinued.

“We’re delaying action on the plaza until June 21,” Mayor Grace Winchell said early Tuesday morning after the council meeting adjourned at 12:30 a.m.

The plaza proposal calls for the city to construct an artistic entrance to the pier at the intersection of North Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway. The city would use $3 million from an existing bond issue to pay for the project.
