Starting July 1, Cindy Marquardt will be the principal of Jeane Thorman Elementary School.

She replaces Sue Moore, who recently was appointed principal in the Lake Elsinore School District, officials said.

Before her appointment, Marquardt served as an assistant principal at 24th Street School in Los Angeles for three years. She was also an assistant principal at Corona Avenue School in Bell. She has worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1982.

Officials said Marquardt has extensive background and knowledge of bilingual, gifted and special education programs, as well as school budgets, curriculum, staff development and relations with parents and the community.

“My desire is to work with teachers, parents and students to provide an environment where children can learn to become active and productive members of the community,” Marquardt said.

Marquardt has a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree in education administration from Pepperdine University. She is fluent in Spanish.
