Drowning Prevention Class Offered

The accidental drowning of a young child in a back-yard pool or a bathtub is a tragedy that can be avoided. In an effort to curb one of the leading forms of death for Orange County toddlers, Kaiser Permanente is sponsoring a free drowning prevention class tonight.

Instructors will focus on safety techniques and drowning prevention education for parents and child-care providers, said Paula Freyermuth, a health educator with Kaiser Permanente.

“A residential pool is 14 times more likely than an automobile to cause the death of a child under 5,” Freyermuth said.

The two-hour class will begin at 7 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente’s Health Pavilion, 200 N. Lewis St.
