The Moorpark Unified School District board has appointed a Fillmore school administrator as principal of the new Moorpark middle school that is scheduled to open in fall of 1994.

Lynn Edmonds, principal of Fillmore Middle School, will begin working with the Moorpark school district on July 1 for a salary of $53,585 to $59,077.

Edmonds will work at Chapparal Middle School until the new school opens, said Frank DePasquale, assistant superintendent for instructional and support services for the district.

“She’ll be assisting in the day-to-day running of the school” at Chapparal, DePasquale said.

“The school’s going to be over 1,300 students and there’s a need for additional administration.”

Edmonds, who is fluent in Spanish, will help run Chapparal’s programs for bilingual and migrant students and for students deemed at risk of dropping out of school, he said.

In addition to her duties at Chapparal, Edmonds will help prepare for the opening of the middle school, which will take half of Chapparal’s students and teachers.

Edmonds, 50, has 29 years experience in education, including three years as principal at Fillmore Middle School and six years at Piru Elementary School.

She said she is looking forward to her new duties in Moorpark.

“Moorpark has a reputation as an excellent school district,” she said, adding that “having a chance to open a new school and begin from the beginning” is exciting.
