LOCAL NOTES : Arena Studied for NCAA Hockey

The newly built Anaheim Arena is one of six sites being considered to host the 1997 or 1998 NCAA Division I hockey championships.

Albany, N.Y., Auburn Hills, Mich., Boston, St. Paul, Minn., and Worcester, Mass., are the others making presentations Monday at the NCAA Hockey Selection Committee meeting in Hilton Head, S.C.

If Anaheim were to win the bid, the University of Alaska Anchorage would be the host school.

Four county players--Esperanza pitcher Marcus Jones, Western infielder Jeff Livingston, Irvine outfielder Scott Seal and Foothill catcher David Trentine--will play for the South in the State all-star baseball game this weekend at Fresno Clovis West High School.

The three-game series begins at 7 p.m. Friday, with games Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (noon).
