$750,000 Goes to Cancer Research

Concern Foundation for Cancer Research raised $750,000 at its 19th annual Rodeo Drive Block Party with Hanna-Barbera and Friends on May 20. Bartenders included Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges and sons Jeff and Beau. Proceeds will be used for cancer research.

Center Theatre Group Volunteers’ Angels’ Night 1993 benefit gala at the Century Plaza raised $211,504 May 1. Proceeds will benefit the Mark Taper Forum’s Improvisational Theatre Project, which brings live theater to young people throughout Southern California. Benefit co-chairs were Elizabeth Lu and Kim White Peterson.

American Heart Assn. Greater Los Angeles Affiliate Inc.has received more than $165,000, the net proceeds of the fifth annual Stroud’s Golf and Tennis Classic held May 11 and 12 at the Industry Hills Sheraton. Funds will support heart research and community education.

Concern II raised $75,000 at its “Polo on the Ponderosa” benefit May 1 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. The event, attended by 500 guests, honored Steve and Ilyse Teller for their commitment to the organization. Proceeds will be used for the Jerome Teller fellowship, given in memory of Steve Teller’s father, at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Concern II raises money for pediatric cancer research.

American Diabetes Assn., California Affiliate Inc., Los Angeles Chapterraised $117,000 for diabetes research and education and summer camp for diabetic children at its May 13 gala at the JW Marriott in Century City. Goldie Hawn was mistress of ceremonies. Honorary chairs were Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito. Dr. Francine Ratner Kaufman was chairwoman.

Project Angel Food received $100,000 from the Elizabeth Taylor Foundation at a party hosted by Taylor on May 6 at the home of interior designer Waldo Fernandez.

Women’s Care Cottage, a nonprofit agency that aids homeless women and their children, received $7,000, the proceeds of a May 23 fund-raiser at Lunaria Restaurant and Jazz Club. The benefit was sponsored by Al’s Furniture Inc. of North Hollywood, and Women in Film.
