If Michael Jordan was not arguably the greatest player in the history of the NBA, would anyone care if he even played golf, let alone lost bets on his games? C’mon, people, let Michael live his own life.

With friends like Richard Esquinas, who needs enemies? He’s obviously lapping up his 15 minutes of fame like the pathetic little lap dog that he is. If his intent was truly to help his friend, perhaps he could have started by waiting until after the most important series of Michael Jordan’s life to squeal.

As for Jordan, I have no desire to see a welcher on my Wheaties box.

I have always laughed when people write in to cry because Jim Murray has written a column poking fun at their town or their team. He is a master at goring sacred cows.

Now his cow has been gored. In his article about Michael Jordan, he would have us believe that all athletes are driven by greed and love of celebrity, while all reporters are out there only to glorify the athlete and the sport. Give me a break.

Of course the media have made sports figures more accessible to the public and therefore more marketable, but has this made sport better? Hasn’t the hype and hoopla spoiled these young men? The media can take credit where they please, but please, don’t try to sell us the altruistic nonsense.
