Lately singles by unknowns have been bursting out of nowhere and into the Top 10 of the Times’ Southern California chart. H Town’s top-ranked “Knockin’ Da Boots” is one; Robin S’s “Show Me Love” (No. 5) is another. Now comes Tag Team’s “Whoomp! (There It Is),” which entered at No. 16 and should climb into the Top 10 next week. On the country chart, Wynonna Judd’s “Tell Me Why” will probably reign until Billy Ray Cyrus’ new one arrives at the end of the month. Rod Stewart’s “Unplugged . . . and Seated” had another strong week on the pop album chart, remaining at No. 2, defying doubters who predicted it would sink like an anchor after the first week.
