Espino Will Face Lopez in Bantamweight Bout Tonight at Country Club

Cecilio (El Torito) Espino of Michoacan, Mexico, takes on Henry Lopez tonight in a 10-round bantamweight (118 pounds) bout at the Country Club in Reseda.

Espino, the World Boxing Council’s ninth-ranked super-flyweight, is coming off an unexpected fifth-round knockout of Elio Dominguez in February at the Hollywood Palladium.

On the ropes and in danger of being knocked out, Espino recovered to deliver his 21st knockout and improve his record to 24-3.

Lopez, a Mexican native living in San Diego, is 22-8-1 with eight knockouts.

Gonzalo Ramirez (7-4-1, four knockouts) of Azusa faces San Diego’s Juan Vargas (6-3, two knockouts) in the first of five bouts on the undercard, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Ramirez-Vargas is a four-round featherweight (128 pounds) fight.

Lightweight Chuck Goossen of North Hollywood (2-0, both knockouts) meets Rudy Cruz, a 137-pounder from Fresno, in the second bout.

Then, Harout Ter Panosian (2-1), a Valley fighter originally from Armenia, meets Luis Meija (5-5) of Irvine in a four-round middleweight (160 pounds) bout.

In the fourth fight on the card, Randy Smith (4-1-1) of Azusa and Ruben Reyna of Bakersfield meet in a four-round super-middleweight (165 pounds) matchup.

The last bout on the undercard, a six-rounder, matches North Hollywood junior middleweight P.J. Goossen (7-0, six knockouts) against Adolfo Gasca (1-2) of Los Angeles.
