Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Lancaster Brush Fire Chars 250 Acres
A fast-moving brush fire blackened 250 acres in Lancaster Wednesday afternoon before firefighters brought it under control, authorities said.
The two-alarm blaze, which began about 3:30 p.m. near 90th Street West and Avenue H, briefly threatened several storage buildings, but did not burn any structures, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Jack Pritchard said. The blaze was contained about 6 p.m.
The fire is the latest in a series of blazes of questionable origin that have started in the desert between Lancaster and Antelope Acres during the last two years, Pritchard said.
An arson investigator was on the scene Wednesday.
About 200 firefighters fought the blaze. Bulldozers were brought in to build fire breaks and two helicopters dropped water on the fire, Pritchard said.
