Here is Spot’s chance to show her stuff.

On Saturday, the Friskies Canine Frisbee Disc Community Championships takes place at Torrance Park. The competition, sponsored by Torrance’s parks and recreation department, is

open to all dogs capable of catching a flying disc.

Scores will be tallied according to where and how catches are made, with the most points awarded for long, leaping snags. The winner and runner-up will receive an official Ashley Whippet 1993 T-shirt.

In a news release on the event, the parks and recreation department promised “Pouncing Poodles, Springing Spaniels, Leaping Labs and Magnificent Mutts competing for the South Bay’s ‘Top dog.’ ”

Contestants should be checked in at 9:30 a.m., on a leash. There will be no entry or spectator fees.
