Dave Magadan, made expendable when the Florida Marlins acquired Gary Sheffield, was traded Sunday to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Henry Cotto.

With Oreste Destrades at first base and Sheffield taking over Magadan’s spot at third base, Magadan found himself without a starting role on the expansion club--his primary reason for signing a two-year contract with Florida in the off-season.

“It hurts a lot, but there are no hard feelings,” said Magadan, 30, who was hitting .286 with four home runs and 29 RBIs in 66 games.
