BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Wallach Wants to Swing Against Giants

Share

Tim Wallach, out of the lineup since Thursday because of a pinched nerve in his neck, wants to play in the Giants’ series but has not swung a bat in three days.

“I want to. I just have to see how it feels,” Wallach said.

Wallach is going to take some swings today and then determine if he can return to the starting lineup. Wallach pulled himself out of the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against Houston when he aggravated the injury he suffered while tackling Charlie Hayes of the Colorado Rockies during a brawl between the teams almost two weeks ago.

Wallach re-injured the nerve in his left shoulder a week ago when he flipped into the photographers’ well while making a catch.

The Dodgers honored the memory of Roy Campanella, who died Saturday at 71, with a pregame video retrospective of the catcher’s career, set to Louie Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World,” followed by a moment of silence. Flags were flown at half-staff Sunday at Dodger Stadium, Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla., and Campos Las Palmas in the Dominican Republic. . . . Eric Davis hit in the leadoff spot for the first time this season and was one for four and scored a run. . . . Reliever Todd Worrell will probably make his second minor league rehabilitation appearance this week at the team’s triple-A affiliate at Albuquerque. . . . The Dodgers said Saturday night’s crowd was 46,501, not 38,679 as announced.
