HIDDEN HILLS : Council Considers More Speed Humps

The Hidden Hills City Council is considering increasing the number of speed humps in the gated community from one to as many as six, a prospect likely to set off a political scramble among residents who want to slow traffic in front of their own homes.
“A lot of people have said they want a hump in front of their house,” said Hidden Hills City Clerk Cherie Paglia. “These are the gradual humps that you don’t have to stop for, but they keep people driving at the 30-mile-per-hour speed limit.”
The council this week asked the city’s engineer to estimate the cost of installing five more humps within the two-square-mile city and give possible locations for them. A single hump costs about $1,500, but it may be more cost-effective to install several at once, Paglia said.
The council is scheduled to consider the matter again July 26.
