LOS ANGELES : City Will Try to Lure New Caltrans Research Center
Los Angeles officials have announced that they will work aggressively in the next year to attract a new state-funded transportation research center to the region.
The multimillion-dollar center, which Caltrans intends to create next year somewhere in the state, would develop transportation innovations and probably become a focal point for other related transportation firms, officials said.
Officials said luring the center to Los Angeles would translate into jobs, prestige and development. The city is teaming up with local universities, governments and private firms for the effort in an attempt to bring the center here.
“We must remain competitive because clearly there are other parts of the state that will try to lay claim to this,” said Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas.
