THOUSAND OAKS : Man Beaten After Motorcycle Rammed

Share

A Thousand Oaks motorcyclist was in good condition at an area hospital Thursday after police said he was rammed by a car and then beaten by the car’s driver and his passenger as the motorcyclist lay in the street.

Angel Gonzales, 35, suffered a broken left leg, broken nose and bruises in the crash and subsequent beating, which police said was carried out in retaliation over his relationship with a woman.

Two Newport Beach men were arrested after the attack.

Robert Work, 42, arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm, was being held in the East Valley Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, officials said. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Ventura County Municipal Court today.

Shawn Matlock, 26, the passenger in the car, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault, but was later released because he was not the driver. The impact from the car was believed to have caused most of the injuries.

Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Montagna said Matlock could later be arraigned on misdemeanor charges.

Witnesses told police that Work veered across two lanes of traffic and rammed into a motorcycle ridden by Gonzales. Work and Matlock then jumped out of the car and began beating Gonzales, police said.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Thousand Oaks Boulevard near Duesenberg Drive.

It appeared that the attack stemmed from a dispute over a woman whom Gonzales and one of the suspects had both dated, Montagna said.
