Perez Wins Junior Title; Woods 4th

Pat Perez of Cardiff eagled the ninth hole during his final round of three-under-par 69 to win the boys’ 15-17 title in the 26th annual Junior World Golf Championships on Friday at La Jolla.

Perez had a four-day total of 10-under 278 to beat defending champion Gilberto Morales of Venezuela and Chad Wright of Ventura by three strokes.

Tiger Woods of Cypress, who had won six World Junior titles in nine years, finished fourth at 286. Ted Oh of Torrance finished in a tie for 12th at 295.

Perez started the final round one stroke behind Wright, who bogeyed the first five holes. Perez rolled in a downhill putt for eagle on the 521-yard, par-five ninth hole on the 6,727-yard Torrey Pines South course.

Maria Baena of Colombia shot a three-over 77 on the Torrey Pines North course and won the girls’ 15-17 title.
